Google experiments with new ‘AI Mode’ button, might replace ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ | Technology News

Google is testing a new change that replaces the iconic “I’m lucky” option, which has existed since the search engine’s inception, with a new “AI mode” button.
While the “Google search” button opens a page with links to your query, the “I’m lucky” button is pretty useful if you don’t want to browse the internet and just want to visit a website related to your search term. According to a new report by The Verge, some Google Search users on X and Threads are saying that the “I’m lucky button” which appears under the search bar is now replaced by the new button.
In a statement to the publication, Google spokesperson Ashley Thompson said that the new button is only visible to users who are part of Google Labs. “We often test different ways for people to access our helpful features. This is just one of many experiments,” a Google spokesperson said.
As it turns out, some users who are seeing the “AI Mode” say that they are seeing a rainbow border when hovering over the new button while others say that the rainbow border is enabled for them by default.

Google also seems to be placing the new button at different locations, with some users seeing the new button in the search bar besides the “search by image” option. Earlier this month, Google had said that a bunch of users in the United States would see an “AI Mode” option in Search, but it was unclear where the new option would appear.
It is still unclear if the iconic “I’m lucky” button would soon be replaced with “AI Mode” or if Google plans to place to the right of the search by image option. Since this is an experiment, it is also likely that the new button may not be widely rolled out.
And while the number of people who use the “I’m lucky button” is still low compared to those using the search engine the traditional way, the new “AI Mode” button might be Google’s way of suggesting that AI powered search queries are way better than visiting a bunch of links or heading over to a random website.
Earlier this week, Google also quietly updated its “G” logo after a decade with a new similar looking logo that features a new gradient design and blends the different colours in the logo.
