Audiocular-Lex IEM review: This is what pure sounds like | Technology News

My 13-year-old son loves his music… but I don’t really like the way he listens to it. He often streams music off a phone or plugs in whatever earphones he finds lying around. After listening to the Audiocular-Lex IEM wired Hi-Fi earphones, I wanted him to experience what great audio can sound like.

The Audiocular-Lex in-ear monitor earphones are not the type my son is familiar with. His is a generation that has not seen wired earphones and thinks wireless is the norm. The Audiocular-Lex IEM comes with stylish, but heavy, earbuds yoked to braided cables that have an in-line remote and mic for gamers. It is easy to wear despite the largish buds and the loops around the ears help gamers when they are getting too active.

The first proof that my son approved of what he heard came when he took over the MacBook I was playing him an audiophile playlist from and started looking for songs he liked. I was pleasantly surprised when he approved of my choice of The Girl from Ipanema, one of my all-time favourites. While he approved of the audio quality, I doubt he will be happy with the cable as none of the devices he uses has a 3.5mm jack.

But I do use a laptop most of the time for work and that still has a 3.5mm jack and this means I can use Audiocular Lex quite a bit, streaming hi-fi quality music from Apple Music or Spotify. And that is exactly what I have been doing these past few days as I work early in the morning. Listening to an audiophile version of Chris Jones’ No Sanctuary Here, you realise the 10mm Dynamic Drivers on this one mean business. The humm in the song echoes around your head and shows the range of these earphones. Even at moderate volume, the earphones can block out external noise and create your mood bubble, playing the songs you love. The audio reproduction has a richness that’s mostly found in large headphones.

With a lossless Hi-Fi version of Aint No Sunshine, the Audiocular Lex showed that it can do well with highs too. When the vocals come in, this is one of the best earphones to hear it as the singer wanted, with no distortion of any kind. The chorus in the background gets its own space and there is roominess in the drivers to provide this space.

And this is exactly why the Audiocular Lex makes for a great gaming accessory too, offering a sense of space that gives you the edge as you enter a new zone with its hidden dangers. The remote on the cable is handy though there are not enough phones you can use their earphones with anymore. There is thankfully a Type-C version that costs a bit more, but might make more sense for more users.

At Rs 1,390, it is easy to recommend the Audiocular-Lex IEM for anyone who loves their music pure. Gamers too can consider this for their rig.
