Samsung’s Apple Vision Pro rival to arrive later this year: Report | Technology News

Samsung is showcasing its upcoming extended reality headset, codenamed Project Moohan, at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. The device was first teased during the second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2024. A new report by CNBC now claims that Samsung has confirmed plans to launch its maiden extended reality website later this year.
The report quoted Patrick Chomet, executive vice president at Samsung’s mobile division, as saying, “Probably for quite some time still, the smartphone will be the most used device,” while also hinting that Samsung’s XR headset will be a breakthrough product that combines “advanced vision capability with intelligence,”

Samsung has been working on the $3,500 Vision Pro for a while now, speculated to be the first commercial VR headset to launch with Android XR OS, developed by Google, featuring native Gemini AI experiences. At present, there is no information on whether Samsung’s Moohan XR headset will be as expensive as the Vision Pro or if it will be slightly more affordable.
While there are already several XR headsets available in the market, few rival the Apple Vision Pro, which has set a new benchmark in terms of performance and user experience. However, due to its high price, it hasn’t been as commercially successful as Apple had hoped. Most users would simply opt for a Meta Quest headset, as the entry-level Quest 2 costs less than one-tenth the price of the Vision Pro.
Samsung is also reportedly working on an XR headset in the form of smart glasses, similar to offerings from brands like Meta and Snap. This form factor is anticipated to be the ultimate goal for XR devices, making them more compact and convenient for everyday use. In 2024, Meta showcased Orion, a cutting-edge pair of smart glasses designed to expand augmented reality into a more portable and user-friendly format.
