An affordable 4K smart TV with QLED-boosted colours

The Indian smart TV market is flooded with options, but there aren’t many that deliver both value and practicality. It is at this point that Xiaomi upped its smart TV ante by delivering a premium smart TV experience at a very reasonable price with the new Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV.
The 55-inch variant of the Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV, which retails for Rs 49,999, has been my primary content consumption device for the past two weeks, and here are my thoughts on it.
It’s a QLED smart TV and it shows

Smart TVs come with different panel types, and the Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV, as the name suggests, packs an additional quantum dot layer on top of the IPS panel. The quantum dot layer solves a few issues like lower contrast and colour accuracy that usually bother smart TVs with just an IPS panel, and this comes at a premium. But, the Xiaomi X Pro QLED seems to balance this––delivering excellent colours while not being very expensive––well.
The Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV is not as thin as the Haier C11 OLED TV (review), but it doesn’t cost as much either. The bezel-less design with a metal frame makes it look premium both when turned off and while using it.
Dolby Vision brings life to cinema

The TV is Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio certified, but it does miss out on Dolby Atmos, which is available in the more affordable Xiaomi Smart TV X Pro series. When I began using it, the TV was not loud enough and lacked bass, but once I enabled DTS X from the settings, I could experience significantly better surround audio along with thumping bass even at the lower volumes. In fact, the integrated 30W speaker setup does a good job of offering an optimal audio experience, where it eliminates the need for an external speaker or soundbar.
I have my sofa slightly off-axis from the TV stand, but I did not notice any degradation in image quality even when viewed from that angle. I also enjoyed the 2nd season of Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power on Prime Video in 4K resolution and Dolby Vision format.
A minimal remote

As soon as I held the remote, it felt familiar. However, something was amiss – the mute button. The volume down button doubles up as a mute button, and can be triggered by double pressing the same. This works, but I prefer remotes with a dedicated mute button.

Runs on Google TV OS with PatchWall

On the Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV, there are two different levels of content discovery, one on the Google TV OS and another on Xiaomi’s PatchWall.
I was also able to watch live TV on the Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV, thanks to the built-in Xiaomi TV+ app, which includes over 200+ free TV channels, that too in HD resolution.
A comprehensive home entertainment solution

The 55-inch variant of the Xiaomi X Pro QLED smart TV feels almost perfect. It offers good picture and audio quality, and with its premium build, it goes well with most house setups. Under Rs 50,000, the Xiaomi X Pro QLED is definitely a compelling smart TV to consider right now.
