X, the popular social media platform owned by Elon Musk is inaccessible for many people in some parts of the world. The problem surfaced at around 1 A.M IST on Friday, May 23, with several users reporting on DownDetector that they were having trouble using the app and navigating the website.

While the number of people reporting the outage has now decreased and everything seems operational, at least in India, the outage still seems to be affecting users in some parts of the world like the US, Canada, Peru and Germany.
X doesn’t have a status page, but on its developer platform status page, the company says that “some systems are experiencing degraded performance”. However, X is yet to acknowledge the issue and hasn’t said anything about a fix.

This is the second outage this year. The micro-blogging site went down for around 30 minutes on March 10 following which several users reported that they were unable to access it via the mobile app and web version. At around 3:15 pm IST, the outage spiked with more than 2,500 reports logged on downdetector.com. In September 2024, the platform was inaccessible for over an hour worldwide.
