Qualcomm unveils new Snapdragon G series for gaming handhelds from Ayaneo and OneXPlayer | Technology News
Qualcomm today unveiled three new Snapdragon G series gaming processors which the company says are “designed to power handheld gaming devices.” The latest from the company comprises the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chipset.
In a press release, Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 is an octa core chipset that consists of two performance and six efficiency cores and is powered by the Adreno A12 GPU. It lets gamers play at up to 1080p resolution at 120 FPS over Wi-Fi and is intended for cloud gaming on Android powered gaming handhelds.
For those interested in running games both locally and on the cloud, the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is a better choice. Featuring one Prime, four performance and three efficiency cores, the chipset is backed by the Adreno A22 GPU and is aimed for gaming and cloud gaming at 144fps with a resolution of up to QHD+.
The most powerful amongst the lot is the Snapdragon G2 Gen 3, which has one Prime, five performance and two efficiency cores. Qualcomm says it is the first chipset in the lineup to come with Unreal Engine’s Lumen support, which enables “fully dynamic global illumination and reflection systems.” Compared to its predecessor, the new chip is 30 per cent and 28 per cent faster on the CPU and GPU front and consumes less power.
The chipmaker also confirmed that the Snapdragon G series chips will be powering the Ayaneo Pocket S2, Ayaneo Gaming Pad and the OneXPlayer OneXSugar gaming handhelds and will be available in the first quarter of 2025, but hasn’t clarified when these gaming handhelds will be available.
